Murder comes to sun-drenched Waikiki Beach and it arrives with a shuttle van filled with tourists from the Mainland. Honolulu Homicide Detective Steve Ke’aloha Shaw is a little too attractive, a little too tall, broad-shouldered and muscular. Half-Hawaiian and an eight year veteran of the force with a file jammed with citations and solid convictions, Steve, along with his Samoan partner, seventeen year veteran Aaron Tusitala, track down a bloody murderer from the cliffs of Pali to the beach at Waikiki and through the hotels and exotic clubs of one of the most beautiful cities of the world. From the author of COCAINE AND BLUE EYES and CINDERELLA AFTER MIDNIGHT. Cover design by L. Zackel.

I bought this on Kindle, and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I say this because it was super cheap, and sometimes that equates to being worth what you paid for it. Not this time. A combination of Murder on the Orient Express, the best episode of magnum P.I., and a good dime store detective novel, Murder in Waikiki was a pleasant read that had me guessing much later into the book than I thought.I will definitely try one of the author's other books.

Murder in Waikiki eBook Fred Zackel Reviews
Since I had recently returned from a trip to Hawaii, this caught my eye. I was interested in Waikiki as the backdrop and didn't expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised; a good story and interesting characters.
First book by Zackel I've read. Really enjoyed the reality he brought to his book. If you've been to Hawaii you could visualize the areas he took you to. Looking forward to more ,of his books.
This book provides a lot of historical information on the Hawaiian islands, but the lead character, Steve, is lacking in personality and likeability. There is a cliffhanger at the end of the book. I'm sure the author did that so the reader will buy the next book, but I didn't find the characters compelling enough to make me buy the next one.
i enjoy good mysteries set in Hawaii and this is one of them.. the Hawaiian and the Samoan are a team of detectives that take you on the road to solving murder in one of my favorite places in the world... Fred Zackel can easily lead me into this island paradise to join them with good writing and well developed characters..
Not the most well written, or creative story, but I did enjoy the landmarks that I am familiar with. To be honest, the reason the kept me reading. One of the hardest things for me in a fiction book is not really liking any of the characters. Thats how I felt about this book. I didnt relate, or care about anyone in the story, so its hard to get drawn into the story.
Bought this because I have a deep love of all things Hawaii. Thought the setting would keep me connected while on the mainland. It did. But it was also a surprisingly good & interesting page tuning murder mystery. Great story with good characters. Fun, suspenseful, funny, everything you want in a summer read!
I lived in Honolulu as a child and have always wanted to go back. The setting in this book is so well drawn that I feel I have finally made the trip, have gotten to experience the ways the city has changed through the March of time. Characters are well done too. I did not think the identity of the killer made very much sense, unfortunately. If not for that disappointment, this book would have earned five stars.
